Snake is famous for being simple โ and also for being brutally unforgiving. The gap between a 20-apple run and a 100-apple run is rarely talent; it’s usually a handful of repeated mistakes that quietly cost you the game. This list covers the five most common ones in Snake Unblocked, and the small habit that fixes each of them.

1. Eating first, thinking second
The instinct in Snake is to chase the nearest apple, and that instinct ends more runs than the walls do. Before you commit to an apple, spend one second checking the lane behind it. If eating it forces you back toward your own body with no escape route, it’s a cheap apple โ let it sit and go around the board instead. Patience is worth more than a segment.
2. Forgetting where your tail is going
Your head decides where you are; your tail decides where you can still be. Many players steer with their head and only notice their tail too late. Make a habit of glancing at your tail’s path before every turn โ if it’s about to cross the line you’re entering, you’ve already lost, you just haven’t felt it yet.
3. Playing tight spirals too early
Tight spirals are an end-game tool. Attempt them before you have 20+ segments and they backfire instantly, because any one-wrong turn pins your head against your own body. Early in the run, wide loops are the safe default; spirals only become correct once your body fills a big part of the board and the wide options run out.
4. Panic-zigzagging near a wall
When the snake gets close to an edge, the reflex is a fast double-turn back toward the center โ and that’s usually the fatal move, because two quick turns in a row is exactly where you draw into your own tail. A better rule: never hug a wall within one lane of your body. Stay far enough from every edge that a single turn is always your whole correction.
5. Restarting with the same plan twice
Crashing is fine; crashing the same way three times in a row is a signal. Before you click play again, say out loud what just happened โ “I turned into my tail,” “I chased an apple.” That two-second note is the difference between ten identical crashes and ten learning runs. It’s the cheapest practice method the game has.
